Second Campaign of Lin4Wood Field Work in Guangxi (广西)

2013/10/28

In the last few weeks Lin4Wood project members of the working packages 2.1 and 2.4 conducted their second campaign of field work for their biomass studies. This time 12 trees of the valuable wood species Erythrophleum fordii ( 格木) were scanned with a terrestrial laser scanner (Model 5010c by Zoller + Fröhlich) rent from partners of the Academy of Safety Science and Technology” in Sichuan (四川). Afterwards the trees were cut, split up in different compartments and weighed accordingly. Sample discs were taken for density analysis. The field work for the biomass study has now been successfully completed just in time. The cooperation between the German and Chinese experts was a great experience. Further analysis of the collected data and samples will be interpreted in the next weeks and months.

Mr. Luo and Mr. Liu, two local experts of Guangxi Province (广西) helping the team during the field work for biomass studies.

Sample discs are taken and weighed directly for further density analysis.

Every tree is split up into several stem compartments and branch diameter classes.

Branches are defoliated by our master student to determine weight of branches without leaves.

After assembling the different compartments of the tree the weight of each one is determined separately.
