Lin2Value

Lin²Value is a joint project of the German and Chinese partners and consists of two subprojects (Lin4Carbon and Lin4Wood), which are coordinated by the Georg-August-University Goettingen and the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg respectively. Each subproject is led by a team of German and Chinese scientists.

The overall goal of the joint project is development and analysis of innovative technological and methodological approaches in the context of land use improvement. The subject matter is optimization of the multifunctional management of young and middle-aged forests in the subtropical region of China. Lin²Value project supports the forest-relevant scientific dialogues between Germany and China and contributes to the further development of Sino-German scientific cooperation for sustainable development and environmental friendliness. 

Lin4Carbon

The subproject Lin4Carbon is worked on by the equal partners from Georg-August-University Goettingen, Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg and the Chinese Academy of Forestry.

The overall objective of this jont project is to develop and analyze innovative technological and methodological approach in the context of land use improvement. Lin4Wood

The demand for wooden raw material far exceeds China’s current wood production. China has thus become the world’s third largest importer of wood and wood products with 9% of the world’s imports¹. On the other hand China’s carbon emissions are the largest in the world. Actions are taken to increase the forest cover substantially and at the same time to increase productivity, growing stock, as well resistance and resilience of the existing forests with high priority. The Sino-German consortium Lin4Wood will contribute to these actions. Experienced internationally acting research institutions and SMEs², providing newest technologies in the forest sector, are cooperating to find sustainable land management solutions that consider socio-economic and ecological aspects simultaneously. Demonstration plots will be established that will serve as an example for effective and sustainable production of woody biomass as raw material and energy source with site adapted tree and bamboo stands. New methods of forest inventory (terrestrial laser scanning), harvesting techniques taking the ecological conditions in steep terrain into account (cable crane technology), methods to determine wood density (HF densitometry) as well as the transformation of woody biomass in energy efficient substrates (pellets) will be employed. The project team will have its main research activity in the three Chinese provinces Sichuan, Zhejiang and Guangxi
