Final data acquisition of the working packages 2.1 and 2.4 in the Lin4Wood project

The last research trips for data and sample collection of working packages 2.1 and 2.4 to develop and test an innovative method for (above ground woody) biomass determination as well as the lab measurements of the collected wood samples have just been successfully completed.

The latest research plot was an oak (Quercus robur) stand in the picturesque region of “Pfälzerwald” in southern Germany. 12 oaks were scanned with a terrestrial laser scanner in February 2014. In early march they were cut and weighed and samples were taken for lab analysis. The wood discs were then processed in the tree-ring laboratory at the Chair of Forest Growth at the University of Freiburg. The aim of this last step of the biomass campaign was a comparison of the new method applied to subtropical (Guangxi, China) evergreen trees with deciduous, leafless trees in German winter.

The collected data are now being prepared for final analysis.
